Have you ever heard the question "why are we so afraid of our power?"
I've heard this question a few times over the years. Now that I am calling my podcast Aligned & Powerful, it seemed like a good topic to explore.
I've heard only one person answer it (though I'm sure there are others). She shared from the perspective of "these are the most common fears that keep women playing small."
I think the "fear underneath the fear" (things like "people will take advantage of me") is part of the answer. But I think it's more involved than that. A few other reasons I explore in this week's podcast:
- We look at the world around us and see certain people / populations exerting force over other people. We consider that "power," and with the way it's being abused, unconsciously disassociate from calling ourselves powerful because we don't want to be like them.
- We aren't connected to our bodies, so when we start to feel good (which is a foreign feeling to the body) as our life improves, our nervous system panics and does something to pull us back down to its familiar stress.
What other reasons would you add? Reply to this email and let me know!
If you want to go deeper in this topic, check out this week's podcast: 58. Why Are We So Afraid of our Power?.
🔑 Key takeaways:
- The difference between "force" and "power," and how I feel many people mistake one for the other.
- Common fears underneath the fear of being powerful.
- Why it's important to pay attention to your body and its set point as you elevate.
- An exercise to help you tap into more elevated states today.
PS: it's also on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple. Be sure to follow the pod so the episodes auto download each week!
